Worked example

Scan the exported file and check that the messaging app opens a draft to the right number with your text, then leave without sending.

Say a salon prints a "Reschedule my visit" code for its appointment cards. Open the exported chatcument-qr.png on a monitor, scan it with the phone camera, and then scan the printed proof too. Read the recipient field digit by digit against the number written on the card, including the country code.

Next, compare the draft body with the payload you copied using the copy-content button. The message should appear exactly as typed, with no cut-off words and no unexpected characters before or after it. If your text has accents or non-Latin letters, look at each one, as handling of those characters can differ between phones and readers.

Measure the file too. At 720 px with an 18 px border, the 37-module code has modules of about 18.5 px; for print, keep each module at 0.5 mm or more, which means about 2 cm across including the border. Below that, budget cameras start to fail, especially under shop lighting.

Finally, test on both an iPhone and an Android handset if you can. Support for SMSTO links varies by reader, so if one phone shows the text instead of opening a draft, record which and add the number as plain text beside the code.
