What to know
An event QR code packs a tiny calendar file into the pattern: BEGIN:VCALENDAR, VERSION:2.0, BEGIN:VEVENT, then SUMMARY, DTSTART and, if you fill them in, DTEND and LOCATION. A phone camera that scans it offers to add the entry to the calendar app, so guests do not retype anything.
The form asks for an event title, a start time, an optional end time and an optional location. The title is required, the start must be a valid date and time, and an end that is equal to or earlier than the start is rejected with a message.
Times are written in iCalendar basic format without a time-zone suffix, so 2025-06-14 19:30 becomes DTSTART:20250614T193000. That is a floating local time: the guest's calendar shows 19:30 on their own clock, which suits a neighborhood meetup and is risky for a webinar across time zones. If attendees are spread out, put the zone in the title or the location text.
Commas, semicolons, backslashes and line breaks in the title or location are escaped, so a title like Q&A, part 2; room B does not break the format. Each added field makes the pattern denser, so a short title and location scan more reliably on a small printed flyer.

Quick answers
Which time zone does the event use?
None is stored. The start is written as a floating local time, so every phone shows the same clock time in its own zone.
Why does it say the end time must be after the start time?
An end equal to or earlier than the start would produce an invalid event, so the form blocks it. Leave End time empty if you do not have one.
Can I add a description or reminder?
No. Only title, start, end and location are written, and the VEVENT carries no DESCRIPTION or alarm.
Does scanning save the event automatically?
Phones normally show a prompt and the person confirms it. Exact behavior depends on the camera app and calendar installed.
