What to know

Barcodes here are linear: a row of bars read along one line by a laser or camera scanner. The tool offers CODE128 for general text and EAN-13 for retail numbers, and it always prints the human-readable value under the bars with a 12 px quiet margin.

Choose CODE128 when the value is an internal serial, a shipping reference or a shelf label that may contain letters. Choose EAN-13 when the code must be exactly thirteen digits, like a product number issued under GS1. EAN-13 cannot hold letters, and many retail checkouts expect EAN rather than CODE128.

Colors default to near-black bars (#07111f) on white. The contrast against the background must reach 4.5:1 or the page reports an error, since scanners need a clear difference between bars and spaces. The export is an SVG file named chatcument-barcode.svg, which stays sharp at any print size, from a small shelf tag to a large carton label.

A barcode only stores characters. It does not register a product or reserve a number, so for a shop the prefix must come from the company prefix your own organization has been assigned.
