Worked example
Enter one bare address (name@domain.tld), a short subject and an optional body; the tool builds the mailto: link from them.
Picture a boutique that wants an "Order question" code on its packing slips. The address field accepts a single name@domain.tld with no spaces, so a pasted "Support <help@shop.example>" is rejected, and typing mailto: yourself produces a doubled prefix that many readers will not open. Enter only the bare address.
Keep the subject near 20 to 40 characters and the body under about 60. The example contact@example.com with the subject Order question is roughly 49 bytes and fits a 41 x 41 module grid at the default high error correction, while a link with a body that reaches about 100 bytes needs 53 x 53 modules or more, so each cell prints smaller and scans worse.
A common mistake is putting an order number or personal details into the prefilled body. Every customer scanning the same printed code sends the same text, so leave the body generic and let people add specifics. Characters such as & and # are encoded by the tool, but test them anyway.
Concrete check: use the copy-content button and paste the payload into a note. It should read mailto:, then your address, then optionally ?subject=... with nothing before mailto:. If the address is not the first thing after the colon, fix the field before exporting.

Test the destination link and keep clear space around the code. Decorative illustrations on this site are not usable QR codes or barcode samples.
