Worked example

Scan the file, tap Add contact, and inspect the draft on an iPhone and an Android before saving: every field must land in the right place.

The only proof that a contact code works is the record it creates on a phone. Scan the exported file with the stock camera app, tap the offer to add a contact, and inspect the draft before saving: every field you entered should appear, in the right place, with nothing extra.

Walk through the example with a studio called Chatcument. The draft should show the display name Chatcument, one phone number in the form you typed, one email, the organization and the website, and the preview from the tool should list the same five lines. If the name shows twice, or the organization is missing, a field was entered under the wrong label, so compare it against the form before exporting again.

Different apps map vCard fields slightly differently. Check the same code on an iPhone and on an Android phone: the phone label (mobile, work or other), the way the website is stored, and how long organization names are cut off can vary. That is a reader behavior, not a fault in the file, but it tells you how your card will look to different recipients.

Look at non-Latin text and accents carefully. The tool encodes text as UTF-8, and a name like Seo-yeon or Müller should arrive intact. An older reader that shows odd symbols for a Korean, Japanese or Chinese name is a limit of that reader; if most of your audience may use one, add a Latin transliteration to the name field.

Finally, read the code at print size under real light and confirm it opens the contact screen in under a second or two. Keep the saved test contact only until you have compared it, then delete it from your own address book so you do not end up with duplicates.

Input

Chatcument; example contact fields

Output

BEGIN:VCARD / VERSION:3.0 / END:VCARD

Check the saved record, not just that the scan beeps; field labels and long names can differ between apps.

How do I check a code before printing or sharing it?

Scan the exported file at its final display or print size, including after adding a logo or changing colors. Check the decoded content, not just whether a scanner detects a code. Test the destination link and keep clear space around the code. Decorative illustrations on this site are not usable QR codes or barcode samples.
