Worked example

No draft opens: set a default mail app. Plus signs in the subject: use hyphens. Export blocked: fix the address or contrast.

If a scan shows only mailto:contact@example.com?subject=Order+question as text, the device has no mail handler set or the reader does not act on mailto links. Choose a default mail app or try the phone camera. That is a reader setting, not a flaw in the pattern.

If the subject appears as Order+question, the mail client treats the plus literally. Rewrite it as one word or with hyphens, such as Order-question, regenerate and rescan. If the body ends early at a certain character, retest after removing & and = from it, since a long body is the most fragile part of a mailto link.

If export stays disabled, read the red message under the buttons. It is either "Enter a valid email address", triggered by a space, a missing dot in the domain or a display name, or a contrast warning: under 4.5:1 between the code colours and the background blocks export. The Classic preset returns to a safe pair, #07111f on #ffffff.

If the printed code will not scan though the preview did, the usual culprit is density. Remove the body, shorten the subject or print larger. Dropping from about 100 bytes to 49 shrinks the grid from 53 to 41 modules per side.
