Worked example
Keep the default high error correction for short mailto links, export 600 to 1600 px, and keep the quiet border at 18 px or more.
Error correction trades damage tolerance for density. For the 49-byte contact@example.com link, level M needs a 33 x 33 grid while H needs 41 x 41. The tool places the Chatcument mark, or your replacement image, in the center; at the default 22 percent logo width it hides about 5 percent of the area, so H is the safer choice and any lower level should be tested with the logo on.
Export size runs from 320 to 1600 px in steps of 40, with 720 as the default. On a 41-module code at 720 px with the 18 px border, each module is about 16.7 px. For a business card use 600 to 720 px printed near 2.5 cm; for a shop window poster pick 1200 to 1600 px, or download the SVG so the printer can scale it cleanly.
A common mistake is dragging the quiet border to 0 to make the pattern look bigger. The slider spans 0 to 48 px; keep at least the default 18 px on white paper and move toward 48 when the code sits on a tinted or busy background. Widen the border rather than enlarging the pattern.
Concrete check: the tool blocks export when the code colours and background fall under 4.5:1 contrast, so a pale gradient preset may stop you. Print one sample at the real size and scan it from 30 cm with two phones before approving a print run.

Lowering error correction shrinks the grid but also removes the safety margin the center mark relies on.

How do I check a code before printing or sharing it?

Test the destination link and keep clear space around the code. Decorative illustrations on this site are not usable QR codes or barcode samples.
