Worked example
JPEG to PNG has no quality setting: PNG is lossless, so the real lever is pixel size, and the file will usually grow.
That removes the usual tradeoff between size and sharpness and replaces it with a different one: fidelity against weight. PNG reproduces the decoded JPEG exactly, so a 6-megapixel photo that is 1.8 MB as JPEG commonly ends up several times heavier. The preview of estimated output size will show the jump before you commit.
Resolution is the setting you control in practice, and it belongs outside this tool. If the PNG is only going into a slide or a web page, resize the JPEG to the display size first with the Resize tool, say 1920 px wide, and then convert, which can cut the PNG from megabytes to a few hundred KB. If you will print or crop later, keep the full pixels.
The common mistake is converting repeatedly to "improve" a picture. Each step gives the same pixels, and any edit followed by a JPEG save adds loss again. Convert once, edit in the PNG, and export JPEG only at the very end.
A short decision rule: use PNG for editing, text-heavy screenshots and anything that will be saved several times, and stay with JPEG for finished photographs where a smaller file matters.
Before a large batch, convert one photo and note the ratio between the two file sizes; multiplying that ratio tells you whether the whole set will fit in the 64 MB output limit.

There is no quality control for PNG output; the lever that changes file size is the pixel dimensions, which you set before converting.

What should I check before publishing an edited image?
Open the exported file and check its dimensions, file size, fine text, edges, and transparency at the size where it will be used. Resizing changes pixel dimensions; compression targets file size. Enlarging an image does not guarantee recovery of missing detail. Keep your original so you can export again with different settings.
