What to know
Compression changes how a file is encoded, not what it shows, so the image keeps its pixel dimensions. For JPG and WebP the control is a quality slider from 20 to 95 that starts at 78, and for PNG the tool uses lossless optimization instead, so there is no slider at all. Pick the output format at the top: JPG, WebP or PNG.
Results are measured, not promised. After each file is processed the tool compares sizes, and when the new file would be no smaller than the original in the same format and at the same dimensions, it hands back your original untouched and says so. That prevents the common surprise of an already well-optimized file growing after a re-encode.
A PNG that goes in as PNG and comes out as PNG is run through an optimizer at effort level 3, which rewrites the compressed data without changing a single pixel. Anything else headed for PNG, such as a JPG, is drawn on a canvas and saved as PNG, which often produces a bigger file; for photographs the lossy formats are the right target.
When the quality slider is not enough, tick Resize before compressing and set a width or percentage. Pixel count has a stronger effect on size than quality does, because halving both sides leaves a quarter of the pixels. A batch accepts up to 12 images and 48 MB, processed one at a time in the browser.

Quick answers
What quality setting should I start with?
The default of 78 is a good first try for photos. Lower it in steps of 5 to 10 while checking the preview, and stop before blocky edges appear around text or sharp lines.
Why did the tool give me back my original file?
The re-encode came out the same size or larger than the file you supplied, so keeping the original is the better result. This is common for files already saved with aggressive settings.
Why is there no quality slider for PNG?
PNG is lossless, so compression means rewriting the data more efficiently. Level 3 optimization keeps every pixel, including transparency.
Can I compress images in bulk?
Yes, up to 12 images and 48 MB together per batch. They are processed one after another in your browser, and your files are not uploaded.
