Give the saved Reel a clear name, keep the original link beside it and note the permission under which you hold the copy.

A simple naming scheme is brand_springlaunch_reel_v1.mp4, with the account and campaign first and a version at the end, so a later re-save becomes v2 and never overwrites the first. Store it with a small note holding the permalink, the owner account, the option you chose, the duration and the pixel size. Any teammate can then trace the file back to its source in under a minute.

Picture a freelancer making a highlight video for a restaurant client. The client sends the Reel link, confirms in an email that the clip is theirs, and the freelancer saves the file, the link and that email together. If the client later asks which version went into the cut, the folder answers it.

The common mistake is moving a saved Reel onward to other platforms or into an ad as if it were free footage. The video, voice, face or music of another person stays theirs, and reposting without permission, hiding the credit or stripping a watermark can infringe their rights and breach platform terms. Ask the owner, get a written yes, and credit them as agreed.

When re-uploading your own Reel to another service, check the current guide of that service for vertical video sizes and length limits rather than assuming 1080 × 1920 and 9:16 will always be accepted. Keep one untouched master and do any trimming on a copy.
