Worked example

Start with a photo whose product edge is sharp, evenly lit and clearly different from the background, saved as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Check the shot at 100 percent before uploading. A white mug on a white sheet, a glass bottle on a window, or a black strap on a dark floor give the segmentation almost nothing to follow, and thin parts such as handles, chains or cables are the first to get eaten. A seller photographing a 1500 × 1500 px sneaker should shoot it on a plain mid-tone surface with soft light from the side.

Look for things you do not want treated as part of the product: a price tag, a hand, a prop, a strong shadow on the table. The tool decides what counts as the main subject by itself, so remove loose items from the frame instead of hoping they will be dropped.

This page sends the image to a server, not only to your browser, which is why each batch is limited to 4 images and 16 MB in total. Do not upload unreleased or confidential product shots unless your own rules allow it, and resize oversized originals first, since a 25 MB camera file will be refused.

A quick check before you start: zoom into the hardest edge, usually a fuzzy fabric or a transparent part, and decide whether you could accept a rough edge there. If not, reshoot against a cleaner background.
