Worked example

Save the transparent PNG as your master, then make one file per destination, each with its own background, size and name.

Chatcument names the cutout with a -background-removed suffix, so sneaker.jpg returns as sneaker-background-removed.png. Keep it exactly like that in a masters folder. When a marketplace wants a white background, place the PNG on pure white in an editor, or pass it through the PNG to JPEG converter, which fills any transparency with white and produces a flat JPG.

Platforms differ on required backgrounds, minimum side length and file type, and the rules change, so read the current upload guide of each marketplace before you export. Many want a plain light background and a square or near-square image of about 1000 to 2000 px on the long side, but treat that as a hint to check, not a rule.

The usual mistake is deleting the cutout after making a white-background JPG. When a banner, a seasonal sale or a different shop needs a coloured background, you would have to start over. The transparent master saves that work.

For repeatable handling of a catalogue, process four photos at a time, check each on white and dark, and log the SKU in the file name, for instance sku1042-sneaker-red-background-removed.png. A colleague can then re-export every product at a new size without opening the originals.
