Color picker and palette extractor

What to know

The extractor shrinks your image so its longest side is at most 160 px, then counts pixels. Anything with an alpha value below 180 out of 255 is skipped, so a transparent PNG logo gives you its artwork colors rather than a pile of empty background.

Each remaining pixel is snapped to the nearest multiple of 24 per channel before counting. A channel value of 200 becomes 192 and 250 becomes 240, which merges thousands of near-identical shades into one bucket. That means swatches are representative values, not exact pixels from the file.

The buckets are sorted by pixel count. A bucket is dropped when it lies within an RGB distance of 58 from a swatch already chosen, which keeps eight cards from being eight slightly different blues. You get at most eight swatches, listed from most to least common.

When you need the exact value of one spot, click a pixel on the preview. That reads the full-resolution image rather than the shrunken sample and shows its HEX and RGB with copy buttons. The file never leaves the page, and GIF, SVG and AVIF files are decoded locally too.

How to use Image palette extractor — free online tool
  1. Choose an image or drop one anywhere on the page; PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, SVG, AVIF and BMP are accepted.
  2. Wait for the preview, then read the swatch list of up to 8 colors ordered by pixel count.
  3. Click the HEX or RGB button on a swatch, such as #F0C060 or rgb(240, 192, 96), to copy it.
  4. Click any pixel on the preview when you need that exact spot instead of a bucketed swatch.
  5. Use Replace image to analyze another file; one image is handled at a time.

Quick answers

Why does a swatch differ slightly from the pixel I see?

Palette swatches are snapped to multiples of 24 per channel (192, 216, 240 and so on). Click the pixel on the preview to get its exact value.

Why do I get fewer than 8 colors?

A color closer than 58 in RGB distance to an earlier swatch is skipped, so a flat or monochrome image may yield only a few. Transparent areas with alpha under 180 are ignored as well.

Can I drop several images at once?

No. Dropping more than one file shows a message asking for a single image, because the new file replaces the current analysis.
