What to know
Click anywhere on the loaded picture and the tool reads exactly one pixel. The click position is mapped from the preview back to the image at its real resolution, so a 4000 px wide photo shown at 800 px still returns the value of the specific pixel under the pointer, not an average of its surroundings. The result appears as an uppercase HEX code and an rgb(r, g, b) string, each on its own copy button.
The conversion is plain base 16. For rgb(200, 100, 50) the red 200 is C8, the green 100 is 64 and the blue 50 is 32, giving #C86432. In reverse, #C86432 reads as 200, 100 and 50. Each channel is a whole number from 0 to 255, so the code is always six hex digits with leading zeros kept, for example #0A0B0C.
Mind what you point at. Photographs contain noise and JPG blocks, so one click on a sky can return a value a few levels off from the one beside it; click three or four times and take the middle one. Anti-aliased edges of text and logos mix two colors, so sample the solid inside of a letter or a shape. Transparent pixels in a PNG read as their underlying color without the alpha, so check the preview background too.
This page reads single points. For a quick overview of dominant colors, the palette extractor sibling summarizes the whole image into eight swatches; its values are grouped, so they can differ slightly from what you click here.

Quick answers
Is the picked color an average or one exact pixel?
One exact pixel at the image real resolution, even if the preview is scaled down. No averaging is applied.
What HEX code is rgb(200, 100, 50)?
#C86432. Red 200 is C8, green 100 is 64 and blue 50 is 32 in hexadecimal.
Why does clicking the same sky twice give slightly different codes?
Sensor noise and JPG compression vary from pixel to pixel. Sample several spots and use the middle value.
Why is an edge pixel a muddy color?
Anti-aliasing blends the edge between two colors. Click inside the solid area of the shape instead.
