Download X video — free online tool

Save a public X video as MP4 from a status or /video/1 link, choose between the bitrate variants X publishes, or extract the soundtrack.

What to know

X publishes each video in several MP4 variants, each with its own resolution and bitrate. The downloader lists them as Original quality plus smaller steps measured on the short edge, so a post uploaded at 1280 × 720 might offer 720p and 360p without any conversion work.

The preview takes the duration from the post’s metadata, in milliseconds, and the sizes are estimated as bitrate times seconds divided by eight. At 2.2 Mbps a 30-second clip is about 7.9 MB, while a 40-second clip at 832 kbps is roughly 4 MB. These are estimates, and the final file can differ slightly.

Animated GIFs on X and very short looping clips are stored by X as video, so they arrive as MP4 rather than as GIF files. If you need a GIF, convert the MP4 afterwards, remembering that the result gets much larger.

A video on X is often a clip of a broadcast, a match or a film, uploaded by someone who does not own it. Taking it down later is the platform’s problem, but republishing it is yours. Prefer to link to the post, and ask the rights holder if the clip will appear in anything commercial.

Quick answers

How big will a 30-second X video at 2.2 Mbps be?

About 7.9 MB, because size is bitrate times duration divided by eight. A lower variant at 832 kbps would be around 3 MB for the same length.

I saved a GIF from X and got an MP4. Is that a mistake?

No. X stores animated GIFs as short looping videos, so the downloader returns the MP4 that X itself serves.

Does an X video from a protected account work?

No. Protected accounts are not public, so the preview cannot read the video and reports the media as unavailable.
