Download Facebook video — free online tool

Save a public Facebook video from /videos/, /watch?v=, video.php or fb.watch links as MP4 in original or lower quality, or as audio only.

What to know

Video addresses are the largest family on Facebook. Accepted shapes include /name/videos/ID, /name/videos/title/ID, /watch?v=ID, /video.php?v=ID, /video/embed and fb.watch/CODE short links, plus /share/v/… links. The ID after the v parameter may be digits or a pfbid string.

Facebook videos are long form more often than on the other networks, so duration matters. A 45-minute stream replay at 720p can easily approach the default 750 MB limit, in which case the preview lists only the rows whose estimate fits and the original row can be refused with a size message. A lower step such as 480p or 360p is the way around it.

Many Facebook videos are recorded events: sermons, council meetings, webinars and school performances. For those, the audio rows are the efficient choice, since a one-hour talk saved as speech-quality audio is tiny compared with the video, and Opus 96 kbps keeps voices clear.

Videos with people in them need care beyond copyright. A public meeting recording belongs to its organiser, a concert to the performers and the venue, and a family event to the people shown. Download for your own records, and ask for written permission before you post a stranger’s video anywhere new.

Quick answers

Why can a long Facebook video not be downloaded at original quality?

If the estimated size of a row exceeds the 750 MB default limit, that row is refused or hidden. Choose a lower step such as 360p or a compressed audio profile.

Does a fb.watch link need extra steps?

No. It is accepted as is, with its short code and query string kept, and the service follows it to the video.

How big is the Opus audio of a one-hour talk at 96 kbps?

Roughly 41 MB, since size is bitrate times duration divided by eight. At 128 kbps MP3 the same hour is about 55 MB.
