Save a public Facebook Reel from a /reel/ID or /share/r/ link as a vertical MP4, choose a smaller step like 540p, or extract the audio.

What to know

Reel links are the tidiest Facebook addresses: facebook.com/reel/ followed by digits, or a /share/r/… link created by the Share sheet. A reel/ID address is accepted only when the ID is numeric, and anything after it is trimmed away.

The preview reports duration and a portrait pixel size, and Original quality is the MP4 that Facebook serves publicly. Lower steps are named by their short edge, for example 540p or 360p, and appear only below the source resolution and when the service can make them. Facebook can also hand out a single combined file, which keeps the process quick.

Facebook Reels reuse music from the in-app library and often include clips that were originally uploaded as ordinary videos. Audio rows let you keep a voice-over or a sound for editing, and sizes follow bitrate times duration divided by eight, so a 20-second Reel at 192 kbps weighs about 0.5 MB.

A Reel posted by a Page for a brand or an event is promotional material, and the Page may have cleared the music only for use on Facebook. If you are the Page owner, keeping an archive is routine. If you are not, republishing the Reel in your own ad or feed needs permission from the Page and from the owners of its music.

Quick answers

What happens to the extra text after the ID in a Reel link?

It is trimmed away. The query string and anything else is removed, except on /share/ links, so only the numeric Reel ID is used.

Can I save the audio of a Reel that uses a library song?

The audio rows are offered, but library songs are licensed for use on Facebook. Keep the file private and do not reuse the song elsewhere without the rights.

Why does my Reel size show fewer steps than a YouTube video?

Steps are only listed below the source resolution, and Facebook Reels are usually posted at 720 or 1080 on the short edge. Few rungs sit below that and are available.
