Download YouTube Short — free online tool

Save a public YouTube Short from a /shorts/ link as a vertical MP4 with 720p-style steps by short edge, or keep just its audio.

What to know

A Short has its own address, youtube.com/shorts/ID, but the same video also opens at /watch?v=ID. Both links are accepted here, and either one is reduced to the plain form before the preview loads, so a share link with a feature tag at the end works.

Shorts are vertical, usually 1080 × 1920. The quality ladder is measured on the short edge, which for a portrait clip is the width, so 720p means a 720 × 1280 file and 480p means 480 × 854. A step is offered only when it is smaller than the source and the service can build it.

The sound is part of the Short and often comes from the Shorts audio library or from another creator’s video. The soundtrack can be extracted as MP3, M4A, Opus, WAV or FLAC, with sizes estimated as bitrate times duration divided by eight, so a 45-second clip at 192 kbps is roughly 1 MB.

Remix-style Shorts reuse other creators’ footage and audio, and the upload settings of the original creator decide what is allowed. Keep your own Shorts for archive or cross-posting, and ask before redistributing anybody else’s clip, because the uploader’s permission does not cover the people and music in it.

Quick answers

Does a Short link work if I paste it with /watch?v= instead of /shorts/?

Yes. The same video ID opens at both addresses, and the downloader treats them identically.

What size is a 720p Short?

Because the short edge is used, a 720p Short is 720 pixels wide and about 1280 tall. The label does not describe the long side.

Can I download the sound of a Short that uses a popular track?

The audio rows are available, but the track may be licensed for use on YouTube only. Treat the file as private unless you hold rights to the music.
