Convert audio to M4A
Choose a file, adjust the edit, preview the result, and export it.
Or drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, or WebM audio file anywhere on this page.
Worked example
To verify an M4A, confirm it is AAC in an .m4a container, matches the source duration and channels, and plays on the target device.
Start with the numbers shown after the conversion. A 5-minute track at 192 kbps should be about 7.2 MB, and 256 kbps about 9.6 MB. If a 5-minute file at 192 kbps shows 40 MB, you chose WAV by mistake; if it shows under 1 MB, the conversion was cut short.
Then compare duration. AAC adds a short priming delay of roughly 1024 samples, which is about 23 ms at 44.1 kHz, so a difference below a tenth of a second is normal. A podcaster sending a 28-minute episode should see 28:00 or 28:01, not 27:40.
Play the downloaded file in the real destination, not only in the browser: an iPhone for a voice-memo style file, the car or headphones the listener actually uses, or the video editor timeline. The mistake here is trusting the on-page preview, which plays through the browser decoder and tells you nothing about a stricter hardware player.
Last, test channel balance by listening on headphones with a mono fold-down in mind: songs with the vocal panned hard to one side can nearly vanish if a phone plays mono, so confirm the lead voice stays audible. Write the result of each check next to the filename so a second person can repeat it.
