What to know

Extract audio from video accepts MP4, M4V, MOV and WebM files and writes only the sound to a new MP3, M4A or WAV file. The picture is dropped completely, so a 500 MB clip can turn into a few megabytes of audio.

Choose the container by what you will do next. MP3 is the safe choice for sharing or a podcast app, M4A suits Apple devices and video editors, and WAV keeps every decoded sample for editing or transcription. The same Audio quality, Sample rate and Channels menus as the converter apply, with 192 kbps preselected for MP3 and M4A.

There is no audio-track picker. If a video carries several language tracks, you get the track the decoder selects by default, so check the preview before relying on the result for a particular language.

The video player shows the source in the page, which lets you confirm you picked the right clip. A file with no audio stream at all cannot be extracted, and the tool reports a failed conversion rather than an empty file.

Process only footage you made or have the right to use. Extracting sound from someone else's video does not change who holds the rights to it.
