What to know
The trimmer shows the waveform of the file you load and gives you a start handle and an end handle to drag. Underneath, a line reports the chosen span against the whole length, for example 0:30 to 1:00 of 4:10, and a clip preview plays only that range.
Two entries open the same tool, Trim audio and Trim MP3, and both start with MP3 selected as the output format. Accepted sources are MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus and WebM audio.
The limits are simple. The end must be later than the start, it must not go past the end of the file, and a clip cannot be shorter than 0.1 seconds. The tool tells you what to fix instead of exporting a broken file.
The cut is re-encoded, not copied, in the format selected under Export format. That means a trim from a 320 kbps MP3 to a 192 kbps MP3 loses some quality, so choose 256 or 320 kbps, or WAV, when you plan to keep working on the result.
For anything beyond a cut, such as a fade at the new ends or a volume change, open the clip in the editor next. For a plain cut the trimmer and the editor use the same engine.
