A free video player that opens almost any file

Start with the free GOM Player if your folder mixes AVI, MP4, MKV, MOV, FLV and WMV files. GOM Lab lists support for more than 100 video and audio formats, and on Windows an external codec option opens files that stall in other players.

The 360-degree VR mode lets you drag the view up, down, left and right, and a button in the bottom menu searches the internet for 360 videos to play. It is a quick way to preview action-camera footage before you edit it.

For long lectures or song practice, repeat-interval playback loops a chosen section as many times as you set. You can also chain several intervals into an ordered list.

Resolution is where the paid tier comes in. GOM Player+ lists UHD and 4K playback, ad-free viewing and four videos on one screen, and its permanent licence is a one-time $11.00 on the product page.

GOM Lab also offers a trial download of Player+, so you can set it beside the free player and compare both on your own files.

FAQ

Does GOM Player run on a Mac?

Yes. The Mac build needs macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later. The Windows build needs Windows 10 (64-bit), 2 GB of RAM and 200 MB of disk space.

Does the free player play 4K?

The free player's page names no resolution limit either way. UHD and 4K playback is listed as a feature of GOM Player+.

Which subtitle files does it read?

On Windows it lists smi, srt, ass, vtt, sub with idx, sbv and others. The Mac build lists srt, smi, ass, vtt, scc and more.

Can I choose another look for the player?

Yes. There is a basic skin, a touch-friendly skin, a white skin with only the functions you need and a simple skin that keeps the focus on the video.
