Not every trip needs a card charge today. Rentcars offers three payment styles: full online payment, partial payment where a share of the daily rate is paid online and the balance at pickup, and payment on arrival where the whole amount is settled at the counter.
Online payment is the one that usually gets the best rate, and you can pay in your own currency. Pay-at-pickup keeps cash flow flexible and suits plans that may still move, since the whole amount is paid in local currency at the desk.
Online you can use Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Elo or American Express, or pay with PayPal. At the counter, most locations take credit cards only, and a few Mexican agencies accept debit cards.
One rule surprises people: paying online does not remove the need to show a physical credit card at pickup. The card must allow international purchases and have its printed details readable, and some companies refuse American Express for the security deposit.
A confirmation email arrives with a PDF voucher, and cashback of up to 10% in credits is shown on the booking screen whichever way you pay.

Can I pay with a debit card at the counter?

Do I still need a card if I paid online?
