Missed connecting flight: who pays and how much

A connection that slips through your fingers is claimable when it starts with the airline. The first flight arrived late, was cancelled or bumped you off, and you reached the final airport 3 or more hours behind schedule.

Everything must sit on one itinerary. The claim form asks if the trip had a transfer and which flight was disrupted, because the distance from first departure to final destination sets the payout, not the length of each leg.

Your journey needs a link to the EU as well: it left from an EU airport, or was operated by an EU airline into the EU. Where a storm, political unrest or a strike by airport staff caused the miss, the airline can refuse.

Technical faults and staff shortages are not accepted as extraordinary, so airlines that cite them can be challenged. Lennuabi will contest the refusal after you fill in the claim.

Keep both boarding passes, the booking confirmation and the airline's rebooking messages, and describe the new arrival time accurately.

FAQ

Does the second airline pay if I booked both flights separately?

Missed connections are judged on a single itinerary, so separate bookings usually do not qualify.

What arrival delay do I need?

You must reach your final destination 3 hours or more late.

Does extreme weather count?

Yes, as an extraordinary circumstance it can block compensation.
