Volume converter
Convert volume between L, mL, m3, US gallons and US quarts. Example: 10 US gal is 37.854118 L; 1 m3 is 1,000 L; 1 gal is 4 qt.

What to know
The volume page offers five units: litre, millilitre, cubic metre, gallon and quart. Values pass through litres with these factors: 1 mL = 0.001 L, 1 m3 = 1,000 L, 1 gal = 3.785411784 L and 1 qt = 0.946352946 L.
The gallon and the quart are the US liquid units. Four quarts make one gallon, so 1 gal to qt returns 4, and 10 gal converts to 10 x 3.785411784 = 37.854118 L. The imperial gallon used in the UK (about 4.546 L) is not offered.
Metric steps are straightforward: 750 mL is 0.75 L and 2 m3 is 2,000 L. The default pair is L to mL, which handles most recipe, aquarium and fuel-tank conversions.
Cubic metres appear on water bills and in shipping, while litres and gallons appear on cans, fuel pumps and tanks, so this page is mainly used to bridge those worlds.
Kitchen and shipping figures show the range. A 250 mL cup is 0.25 L, a 20 L jerrycan is 5.283441 gal, and a 1 m3 water tank is 1,000 L, or 264.172052 gal.

Quick answers
How many litres are in a US gallon?
3.785411784 L. A tank of 15 gal therefore holds 56.781177 L.
Is this the UK gallon?
No. It is the US liquid gallon. The imperial gallon is about 20 percent larger, and it is not included.
How many litres fit in 1 cubic metre?
1,000 L, so a 2.5 m3 tank holds 2,500 L.
