Pressure converter

Convert pressure between Pa, kPa, bar, atm and psi. Example: 32 psi is 220.632233 kPa; 1 atm is 101.325 kPa and 1.01325 bar.

Pressure · Pa → kPa0.001 kPa

What to know

The pressure page converts five units: pascal, kilopascal, bar, standard atmosphere and pound-force per square inch. Everything goes through pascals: 1 kPa = 1,000 Pa, 1 bar = 100,000 Pa, 1 atm = 101,325 Pa and 1 psi = 6,894.757293 Pa.

Worked example: a tyre inflated to 32 psi holds 32 x 6894.757293 / 1000 = 220.632233 kPa. In bar the same tyre reads 2.206322, and a European gauge showing 2.2 bar means 220,000 / 6,894.757293 = 31.908302 psi.

Reference points are exact: 1 atm = 101.325 kPa = 1.01325 bar = 14.695949 psi. Typical uses are tyre pressures, pressure cookers, scuba cylinders, weather maps in hPa (which equal mbar and 0.1 kPa) and equipment datasheets.

The values are plain pressure numbers and make no distinction between gauge and absolute pressure. A tyre gauge measures pressure above the atmosphere, so add about 101.325 kPa yourself if a formula needs the absolute value.

Beyond tyres, the same factors serve for compressor gauges in kPa, scuba cylinders around 200 bar and weather pressure near 101.3 kPa. A 200 bar cylinder holds 2,900.754755 psi, and a 1,013 hPa forecast equals 101.3 kPa or 14.692323 psi.

How to use Pressure converter
  1. Type 32 in the Value field.
  2. Select psi in From and kPa in To.
  3. Read the Result line, which shows 220.632233 kPa.
  4. Change To to bar to see 2.206322 bar for the same tyre.

Quick answers

How many psi is 2.2 bar?

31.908302 psi, from 220,000 Pa divided by 6,894.757293.

How many kPa is one atmosphere?

Exactly 101.325 kPa, which is 1.01325 bar or 14.695949 psi.

Does the converter handle gauge versus absolute pressure?

No. It only rescales the number. Add atmospheric pressure yourself when you need to move from gauge to absolute.
