Audio fades — Troubleshooting
Audio fades — Troubleshooting: If the first word is swallowed, the fade-in is longer than the silence before it.

Worked example
If the first word is swallowed, the fade-in is longer than the silence before it.
Rerun from the original with 0.1 to 0.2 seconds, or leave a short gap of silence at the start of the clip.
When the volume sags in the middle of a short clip, the two ramps overlap because the fade is more than half the length. A 5-second clip with a 3-second fade is the usual culprit; shorten the value to about 1 second.
If the fade-out does not seem to start where you expect, read the note under the field: it states when the fade-out begins as duration minus the fade. When the browser cannot read the length, a Fade-out start field appears and you must type the time yourself, so enter the clip's real end.
A message to check the entered values means the fade is below 0.1 seconds, empty, or longer than the source. Fix the number and rerun; the file itself is not the problem.
If you still hear a click at the end, the click was probably in the source before the fade, for example a cut made mid-wave elsewhere. Trim a few milliseconds earlier, and then fade, so the file ends in a quiet, clean spot. Keep the original untouched in every case, so that you can retry with a different duration.
Input
Clip with abrupt boundary
Output
Gradual level transition
The tool cannot add a tail after the audio has ended, so a clip cut off mid-word still needs a different cut point.
